The Joy of Jardin Du Luxembourg

I haven’t written publicly in a long, long time, but a few days ago, walking through Jardin Du Luxembourg in Paris, I felt the urge to “just write something and hit publish.” So here goes…

As I strolled along and enjoyed the day, a few thoughts surfaced:

  • The first time I was here in these gardens was Spring of 1996. I recall staying in a room where Sigmund Freud allegedly lived for quite some time. I also recall spending a lot of time in Jardin Du Luxembourg, just relaxing and enjoying the sunshine while my family did a lot of hustling and bustling and touring around Paris.
  • I find my thoughts drifting to my late sister, Michelle, who passed away nearly 5 years ago. She studied abroad here in Paris, and I’m sure she spent time here. I still find her adventures inspiring, and it’s something I wish I had the good sense to do while in college. Instead, I worked way too much and rushed to get my degree…so I could work even more!
  • I hope I’ve been living up to the promises I made at Michelle’s funeral — to live every day not knowing how far we have to go. Life is incredibly fragile and time is precious. If I look back at the last five years, I think I have.
  • This past year, I received my Luxembourg Citizenship, along with my Dad and my two kids — rights we had by birth (but didn’t know it until recently). I’ve always felt very at home in Europe, perhaps that’s why! I’m going to try to make sure my kids appreciate this continent plenty during their upbringing. There’s just so much beauty and so much history here.

Just some random musings on a hot summer day in Paris….maybe I’ll write more publicly this coming year. Maybe I won’t. Time will tell.
